Do you want to be able to make your own wordsearches and crosswords in just five minutes?

This easy-to-explore site offers you a range of puzzle types that you can customise very quickly and simply, with the option of being able to add pictures to your finished handout.

To make your wordsearch:

The instructions on this web page are very simple to follow. You type in a title and the required size of your wordsearch. You then type in the words you want to appear in the puzzle. The computer does everything else for you.

Although you can copy the puzzle into a Word document, doing this can make the puzzle lose its shape. The best thing to do is to print it directly from the web page. From this you can cut it out and stick it on to your definitive handout with clues or pictures.

To make your crosswords:

All you have to do is type in the title of your crossword and the words that you want to appear in the grid. Print the puzzle from the web page and then add your clues or pictures to help the pupils complete the puzzle.

Teaching tip!

Why not give the pupils a copy of the solution to the puzzle and ask them to write clues? These can then be given to other pupils to complete.

Do you want pictures of lexical sets to decorate your puzzles with?

The puzzlemaker website also offers you a gallery of clipart pictures which you can download easily.

To obtain pictures: here you will find pictures of lexical sets: food, sports, teachers, science, letters & numbers, music, seasons & holidays and art. Simply click on the lexical set of your choice to see the pictures.

There are simple instructions on how to copy the pictures onto your hard drive. You can then cut and paste them onto Word documents or simply print them in order to cut and stick them onto your definitive handout.

Here are three examples from the food section:
